Services for patrons who have mobility impairments

Wheelchair and accessible seating
Our seating chart indicates seat locations reserved for patrons using mobility devices or who have mobility impairments. We guarantee one companion seat per wheelchair location that is immediately adjacent and in the same row, along with two additional companion seats also adjacent or as close as possible.

Accessible parking
Limited first-come, first-served accessible parking is located in front of the theatre’s main entrance at 1127 Vine Street. Additional parking for those with disabilities available at 12th and Vine surface lot and the Gateway Garage. We’re happy to discuss parking options with you—call our Box Office at (513) 421-3555.

Accessible restrooms
Accessible restrooms are located in the first-floor lobby, as well as the second-floor corridor and third-floor lobby.

Elevator access between floors
Our elevator provides access between floors as well as to upper row accessible seating via the third-floor lobby entrance. Due to our historic buildings’ uneven floor heights, there are 4 stairs immediately before entering the theatre via the third-floor lobby; a wheelchair lift provides access to this height difference for patrons using mobility devices.

Services for patrons who are deaf or are hard of hearing

We offer assistive listening devices for all performances as well as ASL-interpreted performances on select dates throughout the season. Upcoming ASL performances are indicated on our filterable event listings page.

Assistive listening devices
Headphones, earbuds, and induction neck loops (for patrons who use hearing aids and cochlear implants with a T-switch) are offered free of charge and are first-come, first-served. Devices are available at the Box Office and may also be reserved in advance during ticket purchasing. All devices are disinfected between uses.

ASL-interpreted performances
We collaborate with interpreters from Cincinnati State’s Interpreter Training Program, who translate the play into ASL. Certified ASL interpreters develop and rehearse the ASL interpretation, which is then performed live. Interpreters are positioned in an area of the theater that gives the best sightlines for following the interpretation and the action on stage.

Large Print playbills, Braille playbills, and Audio-Described performances

Services for patrons who are blind or have low-vision

We provide large-print and braille programs for every production along with audio-described performances on select dates throughout the season.

Large-print programs
Available to download in a PDF format on show pages prior to a performance and available day of the performance at the Box Office.

Braille programs
Available day of the performance from the Box Office.

Audio-described performances
Patrons who are blind or have low vision use a headset for one ear to listen to a description of key visual elements of the performance while still hearing the actors. These descriptions are inserted into natural pauses in the show. One audio-described performance is offered for each regular-season production; these are indicated on our filterable event listings page.

Relaxed Performance

Relaxed performances

Relaxed performances are designed to create a comfortable, welcoming performing arts experience for all theatre patrons, including, but not limited to, those with Autism, anxiety, chronic pain, dementia, post-traumatic stress disorder, or other sensory sensitivities. These performances create an inclusive and fun environment to enjoy the performance in the way that is best for each individual.

Relaxed performances feature accommodations including lower sound levels, lower light levels, reduction of strobe lighting, freedom to talk and move around during the show, and more.

Patrons attending relaxed performances can access pre-visit guides, social narratives, and other resources to prepare for their trip. Additionally, fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, and snacks are available in the lobby anytime.

Ensemble Theatre also offers other inclusive programs for artists, students, and audiences of all abilities, as well as auditions for actors with disabilities.
