Workshops & Classes

As a theatre also dedicated to developing the future artists and audiences, Ensemble Theatre possesses an energy and passion in helping students discover their own creative voice. Our workshops and classes are specially designed to strengthen character-building skills that are intrinsic to theatre, but which can also be applied across a broad spectrum of academic subjects and real-life situations. Through these experiences, we are teaching the art and craft of playwriting in fun, collaborative and engaging ways. Below are some of the various workshops that are offered by Ensemble, however, workshops can be easily tailored to fit your organizations needs and desires. If interested in booking an Ensemble Workshop, please contact the Director of Education and Outreach.

ACTORS/DIRECTORS
In this popular workshop, students explore the impact that a director can make on a production. Students start with some basic acting/directing exercises. Then, students are divided into groups and each take a turn being a director as they each direct a scene from a fairy tale, collectively telling the whole story. The trick: each director is given a different concept or theme to communicate in their scene. Recommended for participants 12 years and up.

EVEN BIG KIDS WEAR MASKS
From the dawn of time, people have been using masks to create a unique identity. In this fun workshop, kids will blend visual art with acting as they design a mask, then explore the personality of the character they have created. Recommended for participants 6 and up.

IMPROVE YOUR LIFE WITH IMPROV
Have you ever watched "Whose Line is it Anyway?" In this workshop, students learn the basics of Improvisation in a fun, high energy setting. Focus is put on the students thinking on their toes, collaboration, as well as letting go of their inhibitions. Recommended for participants 6 and up.

IT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY, IT'S HOW YOU SAY IT
How often have you heard (or said): "Don't take that tone of voice with me"? In this workshop, students explore the power of the voice and how to use that power safely and wisely. From there, the students work to create their own unique character using just the power of their voice. Other topics addressed in this workshop include: Stage Fright, Public Speaking, and Vocal Health. Recommended for participants 7 and up.

LABAN WORKSHOP
"Laban" is a movement and vocal based acting technique which especially resonates with young kids and teens. This fun and exciting workshop is a great way to introduce kids to the basics of creating a character, while fostering imagination, 21st Century Skills, and Public Speaking. Recommended for participants 7 and up.

THE SCIENCE OF THEATRE
Science is a vital part of theatre! Have you ever wondered how haze is created, or how designers use light to fill up a whole stage? This workshop focuses on the technical aspect of theatre, while explaining several key scientific concepts. Recommended for participants 9 and up.

THE BASICS OF ACTING!
